Environmental Systems

Atmospherics

  • Artificial Photosynthesis
    • The atmosphere in a starcraft needs to be kept at a precise mix. An artificial leaf, supported by a nanotube farm can break down H2O into hydrogen, electrons, and oxygen. The hydrogen and electrons are then used to turn CO2 into carbohydrates and the oxygen is expelled. Other useful elements are also produce including liquid hydrogen and methanol. Cobalt oxide is used as the catalyst to facilitate the conversion process. The latest systems use bio-engineered leaves to carry out the process. This is the reason why many StarCraft and submarines have a multitude of plant life on board.

Water

  • Filtration
    • Graphene water filter are used in a variety of systems and is capable of ultrafiltration. Capable of filtering not only impurities but bacteria, viruses, and chemicals from a variety of mediums. This needn't just be water but also diary, wine and salt water can also be filtered.

Gravity Generation

The EgDrive could power a craft at many g's of acceleration. Far more than the average human could stand. It was soon noticed that the electrogravitic affect passed through the craft and imparted the same acceleration to the crew. To give the crew a constant 1 g acceleration a triple layer effect was required. The outer layer provides the crafts acceleration. The mid layer cancels that acceleration through the crafts habitable hull. And the third layer creates the necessary 1g acceleration required for crew comfort.

Waste

A modern starcraft has very little waste. Large craft, such as Sol recycle everything. From biological waste to hazardous materials. Smaller craft use nano-disassemblers to break the waste down to a fine powder that can be pumped to storage tanks around the craft for later transfer for recycling. This sand can even be used as a weapon to disrupt laser and to cause premature missile detonation.

Environmental Suits

  • Cool Suits
    • Capable of keeping a person cool in an arid/hot environment. The suit uses polymer wafer batteries to pump liquid coolant through the suit and a belt or back mounted refrigerant unit.
