Valhalla Project

Introduction

On the 6th of April, 2268 subject 195 woke up. This wouldn't be much of an issue if 195 wasn't a clone of a Legionnaire who had just been killed in combat on Ganymede! He knew nothing of the months since he arrived at the Royal Military Training Hospital, Camberley. Otherwise 195 was 100% operational.

The Plan

The Valhalla projects original aim was to create a clone of a soldier that could be deployed to a battle. This would increase the military's compliment which was starting to really suffer from lack lustre recruitment and cuts to funding. The initial attempt was to make a quantum duplicate clone of a single Legion Lance. All 12 were told that they were being backed-up to assist with additional training. Over time the clones were grown with additional enhancements added. When the time came to wake them up - Nothing!

The clones just refused to wake at all. They were in some form of self-induced hibernation. The team carried out every test imaginable, with each coming back showing zero errors. Except the Legionnaires refused to come around.

Success

When subject 195 suddenly opened his eyes the technician nearly fainted! 195 didn't just slowly wake up. He was fully alert, 100% combat effective and ready-to-go. He was behind on his timeline by over 4 months. The time between the back-up and his death on Ganymede. Tests proved that he had lost no other memories. 195 had also noticed the advancements to his body. 6 weeks later 195 was redeployed to the Legion.

Are we going to assume that a human has a soul? A spirit? A ghost? How else did that clone wake up without a soul to inhabit it. Where would that soul go if there was no clone available for it? Or is this just a universal law that says there can only be one 'you'?

Future

After a second legionnaire woke-up nearly 2 months later after an accident on a night out. it proved that the Valhalla project was a success. Now it had to be put in a practical solution.

  • A quantum clone needed to be made of every, at-risk, soldier.
  • Clone storage facilities needed to be put in to place. And in a variety of locations, including RSF Sol and the other stations.
  • Soldiers need to run regular back-ups. These back-ups also need to be carried out before a deployment.
  • Consideration needs to be given to Clones being taken with a unit enabling a rapid redeployment.
  • Can we have more than one back-up clone.
  • A means for a Legionnaire to keep their memories from the back-up until the time of death. A kind of 'Rainbow Bridge' Something along the lines of Richard Morgan's Cortical Stack or Rogue Trooper's Biochips.
