Tanto Combat Dropship

The Battlebox concept required that an Army be mobile and flexible. These Battleboxes needed to be transported to where ever they were needed. Usually this was trailered behind an IFV but sometimes they needed transporting by air. This is where the Tanto comes in. The Tanto is a compact design, just a little bigger than the 20m container. It is heavily armed and armoured enabling the AScraft to provide close air support as well as transportation.

Battlebox storage

A single 6m container is carried on a rack under the AScraft's spine. It uses the same twistlock system and complies with ISO 2020.

Other than a Battlebox the Tanto can also carry a variety of special purpose pods. These include;

  • Search and Rescue with a winch system and medical facilities.
  • Personnel pod.
  • Armaments Rack with bomb bays and additional missiles.
  • Standard cargo containers.
  • Heavy Rail Gun turret.
  • Ground Vehicles including the Army's IFVs.

Drive System

The four EMdrives are mounted in pods. Two at the tips of the forward stub wings and two smaller drives to port and starboard of the tail. They are all mounted to all moving gimbals making for an extremely agile and manoeuvrable craft.

The two forward engine pods are also used as the Tanto's landing gear when at the vertical for VTOL operation.

Cockpit

The pilot sits in a standard cockpit to the front of the Tanto. Linked to the pilot's ICE wetwear and the craft's CNS enables the Tanto to be flown as an extension of the pilot. Many actions happen autonomously in much the same way as flicking a fly of your arm. To the outside observer it appears that the pilot is asleep when in fact they are in a neural net link to the craft. Essentially fly in a virtual reality.

Depending on the cargo limits the amount of g-force a pilot can achieve. A liquid gelatine system enables high G for the pilot but not for the passengers. Once the Battlebox has been dropped then of course the Tanto can operate to its extremes.
