With the roll out of the 2060 Military review and the new regimental formation the Army needed a new space carrier The RSF developed a new saucer that utilised many of the Sol Class developments. The Vanguard Scraft can carry and deploy the regiment to any operational zone and provide support during the mission.
A massive lenticular disc which houses the embedded EgDrive system. The middle insulation ring has the majority of offensive and defensive systems, hanger bays, and sensors. The dorsal and ventral hulls have a sunken disc that mounts various sensor and defensive systems.
Around the circumference of the disk is the storage for the regiments battleboxes. A triple layer gives plenty of room for all of the squad boxes the regiment needs plus space for further storage containers. A dozen space tug container handlers are also carried.
There are six main hangers spaced around the circumference. Predominantly these are used for recovery but they can also be used for launching craft. All of these hangers lead to a central main hanger providing increased redundancy and central storage.
Maintenance bays and nano construction facilities allow the vanguard class to build and repair their own small craft.
"The first time I was assigned to a Vanguard I spent most of my time wandering around in circles. It was sometime before I realised that the squad room was D-090-1. Deck D at 90 degrees and the first outer corridor. Simple really!"
Like all RSF saucers the interior is in the same general layout.
The decks are in alphabetical order with Deck A, the lowest, and working their way up.
The circumference is divided up in to 360 degrees with 0 being a line from the centre through central command and increasing in a clockwise rotation when viewed from above.
Each deck has a number of circular corridors. Each side has a number with 0 being the exterior and increasing to each side of the corridor.
"Generally the higher the corridor number the more senior the position of the rooms occupant!"
All squad bays have the same layout. The exterior wall is made up of docking bays for the squads boxes. In front of them is a large common area used for recreation, briefings, and training. Inwards from the ready room is the ships access airlock corridor. On either side is the squad leaders office, bathroom, and on the other side a mess room.
Directly beneath the squad bay is the drop hanger. This has the squad's dropships and drop pods.
