Buzzard Dropship

The Buzzard is designed to land troops in to a drop zone quickly and efficiently. It has to contend with atmospheric entry, flight, nap-of-the-Earth flight, hostile insertion and extraction. The army chose the Buzzard as it was based on technology that they were already using and familiar with.

The lenticular disc design of a flying saucer not only spread fear in to the heart of an enemy but it was also easily armoured and adapted to the mission.

Drop Compartment

The ventral center ring houses the crew drop compartment. Capable of carrying 12 Segomo armoured soldiers. These soldiers sit around the outside of the central drop tube in fold out seats and facing out. They can be dropped in a variety of ways;

  • Landing with the drop bay extended. This is also used for loading and recovery.
  • Combat drop where the section fold their seats and stand ready for combat. They can add their own fire power if required.
  • Drop from a low altitude. the deck opens up allowing the soldiers to either drop or rappel down to the target.
  • High and low altitude parachute drops.

Armament

The weapons load out of the Buzzard is optimised for close support and ground attack. The lightning strike laser ball turrets are quite capable of taking out lightly armoured troops and vehicle as well as targeting incoming ordinance.

For heavier targets the RAG (Ring Airfoil Grenades)launchers are used these are a mixture of high explosive, fragmentation, and penetrators.

Smoke and active audio disruption and thermal flare launchers aid in clearing an area prior to dropping soldiers on to the ground.

Great! We all dispersed in a typical all-round defence as the Buzzard lifted back off to orbit only to find  every target around the field was dead. The Buzzard had taken them all out!
